Shemini Atsereth -Yeshua’s Ministry

To set the stage, John tells us in John 7:2 when the events of this chapter are occurring.

2Now the Jews’ feast of tabernacles was at hand.

John 7 was during the festival of Sukkoth.

In John 7:37, Yeshua declared:

37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Yeshua stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

This last great day is Shemini Atsereth, continuing John 7:38-39

38He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Spirit was not yet given; because that Yeshua was not yet glorified.)

The prophesy of the Holy Spirit was given by Yeshua on Shemini Atsereth.

What makes this even more significant is what is stated earlier in John 7.

John 7:14-15.

14 Now about the midst of the feast Yeshua went up into the temple, and taught. 15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?

People were marvelled by Yeshua’s ability to teach, eventhough He was untrained by the religious class.  Yeshua then tells them where His doctrine came from, John 7:16-17.

16 Yeshua answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. 17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

Yeshua did not come to change the law, He came to declare the unadulterated word of God.  Yeshua knew the people’s thoughts, John 7:18-19.

18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. 19 Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?

The people did not deny this in John 7:20, that is when Yeshua stated in John 7:21-23:

21 Yeshua answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel. 22 Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man. 23 If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?

Yeshua spoke of His own circumcision.  Yeshua is the only individual that Bible records as being circumcised on a Sabbath day.

On Shemini Atsereth, Yeshua was circumcised.  Through his circumcision, He confirmed  the unadulterated word of God.  And it was on Shemini Atsereth that Yeshua declared the prophesy of the Holy Spirit to come.
