Steadfast to God

In Job 2, again the sons of God and Satan come before God.  Even with all that happened, we learn of the integrity of Job.  Note God’s evaluation of Job, Job 2:3.

³And Yehovah said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.

Think about what is being said here.  This is the same as when Job was quite wealthy and everything was going well for him.  Now that Job is not on the top of the world, God still sees Job as the same.  Job did not change.  Job was steadfast in his approach to God.  It was Job’s integrity that mattered.  It was not what was happening in his life that mattered.  To Job, God mattered most of all.  So many today when things are good, they act like they are on top of the world.  Then when things take a turn for the worse, their attitude heads down the tube with the world.  Not so with Job, Job was unwavering.  He meant what he said in Job 13:15.

¹⁵Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.

Wealth was not why Job served God.  For Job, God was the meaning of life in all points.  Job retained God in his mind

In Job 2, Satan again challenges God’s appraisal, Job 2:4-5.

⁴And Satan answered Yehovah, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life. ⁵But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.

Satan raises the stakes.  Satan claims infliction will change Job.  Instead of just saying it, why did not Satan just prove it?  Because Satan could not touch Job with God’s permission.  Job still had the hedge.  God responds in Job 2:6.

⁶And Yehovah said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.

God allows Satan; however, God puts limits on it.  Satan was powerless until God took down the hedge.

Now do not think that this could possibly happen to you.  Few if any of us are similar to Job.  God knew what he was doing with Job, it would be foolish of God to expect the same of most today.  Job was a type of Messiah.  Just as Joseph was.  Even when Job’s wife said in Job 2:9.

⁹Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.

Job told his wife in Job 2:10.

¹⁰But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

Basically Job said we do not do that.  We must be consistent in our approach to God.  Job did not sin with his lips.  Job did something that many forget to do.  Job retained God in the forefront of his mind.
