Is the Law for Today

This is a question that most believers can easily answer.  However, a believer’s answer is only correct; when it is God’s answer.

From day one, believers are taught that the law is not for today.  However, if that is true; then why did Yeshua state otherwise in Matthew 5:19.

19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

The simple words of Yeshua indicate that the law should be followed.  Yet, Christians have answers that refute Yeshua’s simple statement.  Some have gone as far to state that the Gospels were written only for the Jews.  However, this distinction is not stated in the scriptures.  Rather the opposite is stated in 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Others state that it was Paul who determined that the law was not for today.  That would mean Paul would have contradicted Yeshua.  Paul would be abhorred by such nonsense.   Paul did state in 2 Corinthians 11:3.

3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Messiah.

Simply, Yeshua our Messiah stated that those who perform the law and teach others are great.  It makes sense that one would want to be great in the eyes of Yeshua rather than least.  Which would be to keep the law.  Further in Hebrews 13:8.

8 Yeshua Messiah the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

If Yeshua is the same today as yesterday, then the law is for today.  Christians should be willing to obey Messiah rather than look for a way to avoid the law.  This is a subject that requires deeper study to understand Yeshua’s clear direction.
