Two or Three Witnesses

1 Corinthians 13:12

12For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

Seeing through a glass darkly refers to that fact that most believers hear in dark sayings.  And, what they hear should not be taken literally.  But all too often, believers do this.  Many believers like to think that God speaks to them face to face. literally.  Is it any wonder why so many believers are disappointed?  Why so many prophesies do not come to fruition?  It is because many fail to understand 1 Corinthians 13:9.

9For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

So how does one understand when they hear from God? Simply, 2 Corinthians 13:1

1This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.

We are not to be solo pilots in Messiah.  We are to be in the body of believers that move in the Holy Spirit.  God will then give the believer two or three witnesses to establish a word.  This concept was established in the Hebrew scriptures, Deuteronomy 19:15.

15One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.

Yeshua told us in Matthew 18:16.

16But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.

It is a biblical principle to establish prophesies.  Prophesies comes in part to form the total.  When the total comes, then it is face to face.  It is vital to understanding this if a congregation is to grow into a viable body of believers.  It is what establishes a more sure word of prophecy, 2 Peter 1:19.

19We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

Light that shineth in a dark place is when one gets a word from God.  Until the day dawn is at the mouth of two or three witness.  A day star arise in your hearts is when the word is discerned.

We need to have that more sure word of prophecy.  Too many believers get a word and run with it.  They never get the proper confirmation.  As such, they never get the more sure word of prophesy.

When one gets a word from God, it needs confirmation.  When one learns to do this, they will be able to flow with others in the ministry of prophecy.  Then we can understand the wisdom of the being in a New Testament body of believers.
