Kingdom

It is because of the prophecy in Daniel that the Jews in the 1st Century knew when the Messiah was coming.  However, it was not clear to as to what was Yeshua’s initial purpose for coming.  That is why in the New Testament there are statements similar to Matthew 16:21-22:

21From that time forth began Yeshua to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. 22Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.

Peter rebuked Yeshua, because Peter thought, as many others did, the Messiah would overthrow the Romans and Jerusalem would once again be ruled by the Jews.  It was the understanding of many that there would only be the first coming.  This was the belief of the Pharisees, Luke 17:20.

20And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:

Those who followed Yeshua initially had this belief, Luke 19:11.

11And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.

Throughout time is was the belief that when Yeshua would come, God would set up the kingdom immediately.  It is an erroneous thought that there would be one Messiah that would do it all.

Even after all Yeshua revealed to the Apostles, they still were looking for the physical kingdom to come in the 1st Century, Acts 1:6.

6When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord,  wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

Yeshua knew it was not time, He replied in Acts 1:7.

7And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

It was not for them to know.  They wanted it now.  There is a reason why the physical kingdom did not manifest immediately.  There is a reason for the first coming that escaped many at that time.  Even today many are unaware of why it did not come, refer to Church Age Purpose for full explanation.  It would be the 2nd Messiah that would bring forth the kingdom.

The remainder of this study will explore the Hebrew Scriptures and the prophecies of the 2 Messiahs.
