Dispensation

It is important at this point, that I explain how so many come up with Anti-Christ instead of Yeshua Messiah and miss the context of this passage.  Daniel 9 contains a Hebrew parallelism.  This is when two verses have a common meaning from a slightly different point of view.

Daniel 9:26

26And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

Threescore and two weeks is 62 weeks.  These are the same 62 weeks as in Daniel 9:25.

25Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

Daniel 9:26, after threescore and two weeks is actually referring to after 62 plus 7 or after the 69th week.  This would be the 70th week the final week.  Daniel 9:26 is referring to the same week as Daniel 9:27.

27And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

The one week is the 70th week, there is no time left in the prophecy.  Daniel 9:26 and Daniel 9:27 are referring to the same week.  This is a Hebrew parallelism.   These are referring to the same event from two different point of view.  There are numerous examples of this in Both the old and New Testaments.

However, what many claim is that Daniel 9:26 and Daniel 9:27 are two different events occurring at two different time periods.  It is the opinion of these people that, there is a parenthesis period between the two events of approximately 2000 years.

Personally, I do not agree with this for several reasons.

First, it is supposed to be 70 weeks or 490 years.  If in fact it is 2490 years as many suppose and there is an actual parenthesis period, why is it not 356 weeks instead of 70 weeks?

If there is a parenthesis period, then this would be the only place in the Bible where there is a parenthesis period.  That would make the 70 weeks rather meaningless.

If it is true that there is a parenthesis period, it ought make us wonder why God would even write it this way.  This would make it rather confusing.

Further, we must remember the context of the vision as it was given to Daniel.  This prophecy was referring to events around Daniel’s time, not one off in the far distant future.  Remember, the beginning of the Chapter, Daniel 9:2.

2In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of Yehovah came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.

It was during Daniel’s time.  The context is the return from Babylonian captivity.  When did the seventy weeks end?  Daniel 9:24

24Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

The 70 weeks were to end with anointing the most Holy.  Who is the most Holy?  There is only one Yeshua Messiah.  Anointing the most Holy occurs in the 70th Week of Daniel.  This happened 2000 years ago.  This is when sacrifices were ended, Hebrews 10:14-18 explains.

14For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. 15Whereof the Holy Spirit also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, 16This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; 17And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.  18Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

Yeshua ended sacrifices when He went on the cross.  This what Daniel 9 is referring to.  The Messiah came and was crucified in about 27-28 AD, fulfilling the prophecy.  This is the first coming.  It is in the Hebrew scriptures, the foundation for the New Testament.
