Two Religions

 Drop down to Luke 16:26

26And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

There was a great gulf between them, it could not be crossed.  The Rich Man wanted to change Lazarus’ message.  Lazarus’ message is Romans 11:5-6.

5Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. 6And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

The great gulf that existed between them is the very nature of the gospel.  The gospel is not a system of works.  It is God’s pure grace revealed in the death of Yeshua on the cross for our sins.  It is nothing more than faith in His shed blood.  This is what brings one into a saving relationship and keeps them there.  It is salvation by grace and only grace.  This was the Rabbinic attempt to compromise this great gulf.

There has been many attempts by other groups to compromise the message.  Even today, there are those that would compromise this message.  Man has always tried to put their works in the way, Luke 16:26.

26And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

The two cannot be mixed, Romans 11:6.

6And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work
