Sheep and the Goats

The Parable of the Sheep and the Goats is one of the most misconstrued parables of the Bible.  It has often been taught that this parable is about the judgment of believers and nonbelievers when Yeshua returns.  This understanding could not be further from the truth for several reason that will be discussed in subsequent pages.  Besides, Yeshua knows who are the believers, 2 Timothy 2:19.

19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Messiah  depart from iniquity.

Thankfully so God knows.  He is not questioning one’s salvation and neither should we.  Just because one may sin or later disavow any knowledge of God, a true believer is secure in God.

It is true that believers will be judged prior to the millennium.  However, it will not be whether or not a believer has salvation.  Believers have a present possession of salvation, Ephesians 1:13-14.

13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

A believer has already been purchased.  The Holy Spirit is the earnest of a believer’s inheritance.  A believer will experience first death; however, there is zero possibility that a true believer’s salvation will be judged at some future date.  Peter clearly established a believer’s eternal security in 1 Peter 1:4-5.

4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

Believers have a spiritual salvation that is not liable to corruption or decay.  That means a believer’s spiritual salvation will never be less than it is now.  Once an individual has salvation, it is a permanent ownership.

The only question is, where will they end up in the Kingdom of God.  This is determined at the Judgment Seat of Messiah.  That is a judgment only for believers, refer to Judgment Seat of Messiah for addition details.  The spiritual salvation is reserved in heaven by the power of God.  Nothing can change a believer’s spiritual salvation.  Nothing can overpower God’s power that even includes the believer themself.  God is not a man that He can lie.  So once a believer is saved, it is for eternity.

Based on this, let us go forward for a full understanding of the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats.
