In the Beginning

To answer this question, we must go back to the beginning.  It is important to realize that the world was different in the beginning, Genesis 1:31.

31And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

In the beginning, everything God made was very good, that included man.  However, today the world is anything but very good.

Although many claim that things are getting better, that is far from the truth.  Today, there are diseases that are much worse than those of 3000 years ago.  With all the innovations of today, there are still many starving.  There are reports of a billion people in the world that go hungry everyday.  And, it is not because there is a lack of food in the world.  Today, there are weapons of mass destruction that were not even thought of 200 years ago.  Things are not getting better.

So what happened?  Why did God allow it to go from very good to the mess we have today?  Part of the answer is in Genesis 1:28.

28And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

God’s original mission statement to man was to reproduce, expand and have dominion over all the earth, the animals of the sea, air and land.  The Garden of Eden was to be a skin graft for the entire world.  However, one would be hard pressed to say that man has dominion over the earth and all that lives.  Obviously something went wrong.

At this point, one has to come to one of two conclusions.  Either God is not all powerful or God is all powerful.  If God is all powerful, God has allowed someone or something to intervene.  If God has allowed it then it must be for a reason, because God is not indiscriminate.
