Origin of Evil
Genesis 1:31
31And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
In the beginning, everything was very good. If this is true and it was, where did evil originate? Because it did not originate with our parents in the garden. They were very good, so what happened?
Ezekiel 28:13-15
13Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. 14Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 15Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.
This is Lucifer the light bearer, Satan {saw-tawn’} the adversary. Evil originated with Satan {saw-tawn’}, evil is a choice. Evil does not exists until one chooses to do evil. God who planted the tree of the knowledge of good and evil did not cause the evil. Lucifer chose to deceive our parents. This caused them to perform the evil in the garden. However, they did not originate evil. They chose to do evil as a result of the temptation of Lucifer.
Lucifer’s sin is in Ezekiel 28:17.
17Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
It was Satan’s pride. He chose to be prideful, Isaiah 14:12-14.
12How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
Lucifer challenged God’s authority. Satan thought that he could exalt himself above God. His thought originated evil. The creature thinking he can out smart the creator. When Satan chose this thought process, evil originated with him in his mind. Eventually, he took action and physical evil was born in full measure, James 1:13-15.
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
This is how evil originated with Satan, the opposer. It started out as a thought, a seed Satan nurtured that lead to an action. This is where it originates for us too. However, Lucifer was the first, the originator. Knowledge is not sin, until one nurtures it.
