Destruction in the Lake of Fire

Revelation 20:14

14And death and hell (hades) were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

In Revelation 20:14, hell is the Greek word hades.  Hades is the equivalent to the Hebrew word sheol (refer to Lake of Fire (LJ))

From Revelation 20:14, one can understand what is the Lake of Fire.  Since the book of Revelation is written in symbols and all symbols are explained somewhere in the Bible, all one has to do is identify the passage that helps explain the symbolic meaning of the Lake of Fire.

Paul helps us to understand Revelation 20:14 with 1 Corinthians 15:26.

26The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

1 Corinthians 15:26 states that death is destroyed.  Revelation 20:14 states that at the end of time, death is thrown into the Lake of Fire.  Therefore, the Lake of Fire destroys what is thrown in it.

It can then be said that second death is destruction.  This will become even more apparent as we continue.  It would be ridiculous to think death would be burning in some literal hell.  How is a concept burning in a furnace?  That cannot be done.

Further it can be stated, since the Lake of Fire is destruction and hell or hades is thrown into the Lake of Fire; then hell would no longer exist.  It would be destroyed.  Can one be assured of this?

In the book of revelation many times, the symbols and meanings are confirmed, Revelation 21:3-4.

3And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

There shall be no more death.  It states this, because it was previously destroyed in the Lake of Fire in Revelation 20:14.  Therefore, there is no need for Hades or Sheol
