Lie in the Garden

Have you ever wondered why Adam and Eve did not die immediately when they ate of the forbidden fruit?  The answer is, they did die just as God said they would, Genesis 2:16-17.

16And Yehovah God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:  17But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

God said they would surely die if they ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.  However, the confusion for most is in Genesis 3:6.

6And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

When most read through the first four or five chapters in Genesis, they assume that Adam and Eve did not die.

 Genesis 3:7

7And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

After eating of the fruit, it does not state that they died.  Remember what the serpent said in Genesis 3:4-5.

4And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

The serpent said that they would not surely die.  It certainly seems to most that Adam and Eve did not die.  Yet God said that in the day that you eat you will surely die.  So who was right God or the Serpent?

This is a good example of when people say they believe God, yet they profess otherwise.  Remember what Balaam told Balak in Numbers 23:19

19God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

God is not like us.  He does not lie nor was God mistaken.  Yet most people believe the serpent and the lie that was told in the garden that all will eventually live into eternity.  For 6000 years, non-believers and believers alike have bought into this lie without even realizing it.  Many believers will violently fight for belief of this false doctrine.

Genesis 3:4

4And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

It has been the lie of the Devil for 6000 years.  Most Christians believe the lie that all will live eternally somewhere either Heaven or Hell.  The lie is consciousness in hell.

Hopefully by the end of this series, one can understand the ramifications of this lie and the truth that was hidden.  The truth is and this series will show through scripture that there are those who will die and will no longer exists in eternity.
