Reversal of the Garden

When Adam ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, his spirit died instantly.  Because of this, everyone in Adam’s race was affected, Romans 5:12.

12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

All born of Adam are born with a dead spirit.  So what is the remedy for this?  Yeshua provides the answer in the New Testament, John 3:1-3.

1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2The same came to Yeshua by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3Yeshua answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

The literal translation for born again is born from above.  Nicodemus’ responds to Yeshua  in John 3:4:

4Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?

Nicodemus did not understand what Yeshua meant by born from above.  Yeshua provides more details, John 3:5-8.

5Yeshua answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.  8The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

Even after this explanation, Nicodemus did not understand, John 3:9.  Many a believer today is unsure of Yeshua’s full meaning.

9Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?

Nicodemus who was a teacher, a master of Israel, could not understand.  After 2000 years, many still do not understand.  There are those that claim this passage teaches that one must be baptized to have salvation.  If that was true, then salvation would have an element of works.  Salvation would be depended upon the physical works of baptism.  What many miss about this passage is that it is a parallelism, John 3:5-6.

5Yeshua answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

John 3:5 has two thoughts, born of water and born of spirit.  John 3:6 has two thoughts born of flesh and born of spirit.  As the child is brought forth from embryonic fluid thus born of water.  This refers to being born of flesh. Born of the spirit is spirit, this should be self-explanatory.

Yeshua is speaking of two different births.  That is why it states water before spirit.  This is the reversal of what happened in the garden.  In the garden, our parents’ spirit died first and then the flesh.

Yeshua brings back life first the spirit, followed by the soul and then finally our bodies.  This must be understood to truly comprehend the subject of Sheol, Hell, Heaven and the Lake of Fire.
