Beginning of the Day

An important concept that is necessary if one is to understand the Bible is, when does a day begin.  God tells us from the beginning in Genesis 1:3-5:

3And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.  5And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

The day begins at sunset and ends at the next sunset.  This is different than how most people mark time.  Many begin their day at just after midnight and end 24 hours later at midnight.  That is fine for the world, however, if one wants to understand the Bible, they will be hopelessly lost.  The Bible is completely written from the aspect that the day begins at sunset and ends at the next sunset.  Additionally, the biblical day is not necessarily 24 hours long.  Sometimes it more than 24 hours and sometimes it is less.  What this ultimately means is many start their day 4 to 6 hours late.

Never forget, it was God that created time because of sin.  Man thought better to change the creator’s design.  Unless one understands and applies this simple concept, subjects like the festivals and Yeshua’s resurrection cannot be properly dated.

Observing the day from sunset to sunset reminds us of the awesome creation of God.  It was God who divided from darkness and brought light out of the darkness.  As it is in the physical world, so it is in the spiritual world.  Yeshua told us in John 8:12 and John 12:46.

12 Then spake Yeshua again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

46I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

There is no light, unless we walk in God’s timing.
