John 15 Works of the Believer

John 15:2

2Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

It seems if Yeshua takes you away obviously you are lost and not in Messiah, right?  This is certainly referring to a believer.  I will not argue that.  However, Yeshua states every branch that does not bear fruit he takes a way.  The question that needs to be answered is, what does it mean to be taken away?

But before we get to that it is important to understand the context of John 15.  John 15 is not about salvation it is about something entirely different, John 15:16.

16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Form John 15:16 it can be understood that ultimately Yeshua is explaining what has to be done to produce fruit that remains.  It is a lesson on how one matures not the same as salvation.  So what does it mean to be taken away?  Lets look at a biblical example, 1 Corinthians 5:1-2.

1It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife. 2And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.

Look at the wording.  It is the same, take away from among you.  Yeshua states, does not bear fruit, taken away.  So what does it mean to be taken away?

1 Corinthians 5:3-5

3For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,  4In the name of our Lord Yeshua Messiah, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Yeshua Messiah, 5To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Yeshua.

It is important to understand in context what is happen in this passage.  This man has come into the judgment of the congregation.  What if he does not correct, what does God do?

1 Corinthians 11:30

30For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

Let the man get weak, sick or physical death.  Because from Psalm 89 God will NOT take away his loving kindness, Psalm 89:34.

34My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.

God is not a man that He should lie neither is God a covenant breaker.

What will separate us from the love of Christ?  Roman 8:38-39

38For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Messiah Yeshua our Lord.

Nothing separates us from the Love of God not even us.  Not even if we never mature.
