Who Sees the Return of the Messiah

After the marriage supper of the Lamb, Yeshua will return with His bride to the earth.  That is when Revelation 1:7 occurs.

7Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him.

For everyone to see Him, they must be alive.  That would include those who have previously died.  These who are not believers may have been dead for a while; however, if they are crying they have got to be very much alive.  The question we need to ask ourselves is does our theology have room for these people?

Truthfully, our theology is unimportant if it does not agree with scriptures.  The New Testament actually has a lot to say about these people.

Revelation 1:7 tells the reader that every eye will see Him.  This occurs when Yeshua comes from heaven.  This includes the ones that pierced Him.  It includes all kindred, families of the earth.  And, when they see Him, they shall wail.  As it turns out Revelation 1:7 comes from the Hebrew scriptures, Zechariah 12:10.

10And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

Zechariah tells us that those that see will morn are just like those wailing in Revelation.  John wrote that all the families would be there, not just the Jews.  (This will be discussed later.)  If one continues to read, in Zechariah 12:13-14:

13 The family of the house of Levi apart, and their wives apart; the family of Shimei apart, and their wives apart; 14 All the families that remain, every family apart, and their wives apart.

The families are morning.  This will be a great day of repentance.  These will be there, however, these were not saved in the Old Testament.  Simply because they did not know the one name in which one could be saved.  They could look forward to the Messiah coming; however, that is not coming into the relationship of salvation.  That is just the expectation of an event.

What is stated is Zechariah will be fulfilled in the New Testament.  That is when every eye will see him, all that pierced Him.  The question is what then happens to these people?  Continuing, Zechariah writes in Zechariah 13:1:

1In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.

These are not lost in hell as so many people think.  They receive a cleansing.  In fact Zechariah 13:6 declares:

6And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.

Note that the one who was pierced, the Messiah, calls them “my friends”.
