Rich Man’s Father’s House

Luke 16:27-28

27Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house: 28For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

The Rich Man calls Abraham his father, yet he speaks of another father.  There is the father and his father’s house.  These are two different fathers.  This refers to a discussion Yeshua had with the religious leaders in John 8.

John 8:38

38I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.

My Father in the context of this discussion is the heavenly Father.  Yeshua’s reference to your father and his father’s house in Luke 16 is a considerably different father.  This will be clarified as the conversation continues.  The religious leaders answered Yeshua in John 8:39A.

39AThey answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father.

The religious leaders claimed that Abraham was their father.  However, Yeshua questions this, John 8:39B-41A.

39B Yeshua saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham. 40But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. 41AYe do the deeds of your father.

Yeshua says that they do not follow after Abraham, they follow a different father.  The religious leaders will change tactics at this point, John 8:41B-44

41B Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. 42Yeshua said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. 43Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. 44Ye are of your father the devil,

Remember, Yeshua is not talking to all Jewish people.  He is talking to religious leaders that have rejected him.  They may claim that Abraham is their father, but their father’s house is much different, Luke 16:27-28.

27Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house: 28For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

The Rich Man has changed his tactics.  Although, it seems to be a repentance, it actually is not.  Now there are his brothers and his father’s house.  The Rich Man’s Father is the traditions of men.  It is a house other than God’s house.  Those in the Richman’s Father’s house are people just like the Rich Man.  They too would compromise the message of the Gospel, but in a slightly different way.

There are 5 brothers plus the Rich Man that makes 6 in the father’s house.  6 is the number of man, or of works.  The father’s house is a house of man’s works and traditions.  6 signifies that one has not come into the rest of Messiah, Hebrews 3:18-19.

18And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? 19So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

The parable speaks of the number 6.  Those who did not enter into the message of faith.  Those who live in the 6th Day.  These people do not enter into the 7th day, the rest of Messiah, Hebrews 4:9-10.

9There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.  10For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

In Hebrew 4:9, rest is the Greek word sabbatismos {sab-bat-is-mos’}.  It means keeping a Sabbath.  Hebrews 4:9 should have been translated:

9There remaineth therefore a keeping a Sabbath to the people of God.

Only through Grace can one enter into the rest of God.
