Moses and the Prophets

Luke 16:29

29Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.

Moses and the Prophets are mentioned for a very specific reason, John 5:39.

39Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

When Yeshua says search the scriptures, could He be referring to the New Testament?  Not possible, since the New Testament was not written.  Yeshua tells them in John 5:46-47.

46For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. 47But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

We cannot compromise the great message of Lazarus.  We are to listen to the law and the prophets, Mark 7:7-9.

7Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. 8For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. 9And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

To be joined with the Rich Man is doctrines of man.  It is to follow after the traditions of men and not the commandments of God.  His father’s house would have one follow after works rather than grace.  Rabbis and often the churches teach a doctrine that supersedes the commandments of God.  That is never to be done.

Matthew 11:11

11Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

Up until John, it was the law and the prophets, but now the kingdom God is beginning to be declared, Matthew 11:12-13.

12And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.  13For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

This is where the dispensational change occurs.  John and all those that proceeded him are being fulfilled in the kingdom message of Lazarus.

We have the law and the prophets.  We must listen to them.  We cannot indiscriminately throw them out as many have done.  They are what lead to Messiah and they are His ways we are to follow.
