Lazarus’ Resurrection

Luke 16:30-31

30And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

Although many believe that this is a reference to Yeshua’s resurrection, it is not.  That is not the context of the parable.  The Christian faith is based on the resurrection of the Messiah, 1 Corinthians 15:12-14.

12Now if Messiah be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Messiah not risen: 14And if Messiah be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

It must be something else.  This refers to someone else, Lazarus.  That is why it states in Luke 16:31.

31And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

What was Lazarus’ death state?  He had died and now lives with God. What does this mean to come back from the dead? The Rich Man wanted Lazarus to return to his former condition.  This would compromise Lazarus’ condition and the gospel message.

The Rich Man is still saying come back to us.  Lazarus change your message.

This has been the whole tactic from the beginning to contaminate the gospel message.  Not  just the Rabbis, but the world is trying to do this and many well-meaning believers.  Man is always trying to get his works into the grace of God.

The Rich Man is not asking for the resurrection teaching.  He wants his message to go forth.
