Virgins and Light

Matthew 25:1

1Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

These are called virgins, because it refer to a spiritual condition, 2 Corinthians 11:2.

2For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Messiah.

Paul is referring to a spiritual state.  All born-again believers are virgins.  Prior to new birth, one is spiritually defiled.  Their spirit is not pure, it is in a dormant state.  However, through the new birth; one becomes a new creation.  As such, they are spiritual virgins that are pure.

The virgins brought lamps.  This is because the lamps are a vessel as is a believer, 2 Timothy 2:21.

21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

What a believer does with their vessel or lamp, determines their spiritual maturity, Proverbs 20:27.

27The spirit of man is the candle of Yehovah, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

Believers are the lantern.  The light is what is in the believer.  All believers should consider, how bright is their light?  This is their spiritual state, 2 Corinthians 4:6-7.

6For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Yeshua Messiah.  7But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

The question is, how bright is our light?
