Two Witnesses
So, every born-again believer goes to heaven after first death. The question now is, who else will be there? There are various claims as to who is already in heaven. These will be investigated.
Revelation 11:3
3And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
Many have heard of the two witnesses. It is a widely held belief that these two are in heaven now, Revelation 11:7-8A.
7And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them. 8AAnd their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city,
And Revelation 11:11-12
11And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them. 12And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.
The understanding of many is that this is a literal happening. The two witnesses are real people, who will prophesies in Jerusalem for three and half years. When they finish their prophecy, the beast will kill them. Their bodies will lie in the streets of Jerusalem for three and half days. They will not be buried. Their bodies will be on display, people will rejoice over their deaths. Then at the end of three and half days, the two witnesses will be resurrected and go to heaven.
The purpose of this study is not the two witnesses, it is who is or is not in heaven. As such, the meaning of the two witnesses will not be explained in this study. There is a widely held belief that the two witnesses are Enoch and Elijah. Mainly because, it is also believed that these two did not die and are in heaven waiting for these events to occur. Let’s see if the scriptures agree.
