Jubilee

Leviticus 25:8-9

8And thou shalt number seven sabbaths of years unto thee, seven times seven years; and the space of the seven sabbaths of years shall be unto thee forty and nine years. 9Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubile to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land.

Seven Sabbatical years is 49 years; therefore, the next year would be 50.  The 50th year is the Jubilee.  It begins on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.  It is the day when the nation of Israel congregates for atonement on a national level.

Leviticus 25:10

10And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.

Here is the uniqueness of the 50th year, everyone shall be returned to their possession.  Every man shall be returned to his family.  Even the slaves that did not want release in the Sabbatical year, at the Jubilee, the slave was returned to his family.  Again, if one is not an Israelite, there is no release.

The way that these laws are written may seem odd.  Rather than the possessions being returned, we are returned to the possessions.  We return to the land and we return to our family.  Possibly there is a hidden meaning or a shadow of good things to come.
