Not Going Beyond the Word

The Bible studies have endeavored to stay within the context of the Bible.  As such, they avoid reading into the text something that was never meant to be there.  The goal of the studies is to read out of the Bible.

For example, it is not positively stated from whom Job descended.  There are those that believe, Job descended from Shem based on Genesis 10:22-23 and Job 1:1.

22The children of Shem; Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram.  23And the children of Aram; Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.

Job 1:1

1There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

Another possibility is that Job may have descended from Edom based on Genesis 36:28.

28The children of Dishan are these; Uz, and Aran.

It is not that they are wrong, It is that one cannot know for certain.  Additionally, these issues have little bearing on the essence of the book of Job.

The Bible studies will stick to the intent of Deuteronomy 29:29.  As such, the studies will apply the following concept:

Speak when the Bible speaks and silent when the Bible is silent.
