Personal Responsibility

After they partook of the fruit, God comes back on the scene in Genesis 3:9.

9And Yehovah God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

Do you honestly think that God did not know where Adam was?  God knew, but the fact is Adam was hiding, Genesis 3:10.

10And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

Adam admits that he was hiding.  At this point, Adam has got to know that consequences are coming, Genesis 3:11.

11And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

One must consider why God would ask these questions.  It is unlikely that God did not know the answers, Genesis 3:12-13.

12And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. 13And Yehovah God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

It is interesting that everyone blames everyone else.  Nobody was taking personal responsibility for what they did.  We cannot continue to blame others for our problems and expect them to be resolved.  Until we take personal responsibility for our problems, it will be a struggle to overcome them.  This is why God tells us in In 1 Corinthians 11:30-32

30For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. 31For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. 32But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

Focus on verse 31, it is about personal responsibility.  It is about being honest with ourselves, 1 Corinthians 11:31.

31For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

Sooner or later, we have to quit blaming the devil and others for the calamities in our lives.  We need to come to the realization that we have personal responsibility for our own lives.  We cannot continue to blame our parents, spouse, friends, boss, anyone else or even God.  We must own up to our responsibility.  Until we do so, we are powerless to change anything.
