Back to the Sabbath

Shemini Atsereth represents a couple more thing to the Believer.  If you remember back to the events of the Garden of Eden, Genesis 1:28:

28And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Adam was to have dominion over all the land, air and sea.  This was to be passed unto his descendants.  However, Adam surrendered this to Satan.  Yeshua confirmed this in John 12:30-32.

30Yeshua answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. 31Now is the judgment (krisis) of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. 32And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

In the Garden, Satan became the prince of this world.  Because of this, mankind went from Sabbath to work.  Sukkoth mirrors this occurrence.  The first day of Sukkoth is a Holy Convocation or Sabbath day, Leviticus 23:35.

35On the first day shall be an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.

This may seem odd when one considers that the seventh day is to be a Sabbath, Leviticus 23:3.

3Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of Yehovah in all your dwellings.

As for the Sabbaths, mankind was to work six days then rest on the Sabbath day.  However for Sukkoth, it starts with a Sabbath Day of rest followed by six days of work.  Although, Shemini Atsereth or the Eight Festival is separate from Sukkoth, it is related.  After the first day, Sukkoth is 6 days of work.  This represents that our Sabbath rest in the Garden was lost.  However, God is trying to bring us back to rest through His word and Spirit through Shemini Atsereth.

If one is going from Sabbath to six days work that is the direction of the world.  It never ends in rest.  God is trying to change our perspective.  We are to go through the six days of work and end in rest in the Sabbath day.  Shemini Atsereth represents the return to the rest of God.  Six is the number of man, we must come to the end of ourselves to have rest.

Shemini Atsereth represents the return to rest of all mankind.  After the end of the millennium, we are to leave the temporary nature of Sukkoth and go into the eternity of Shemini Atsereth, eternal rest.  We must come to the end of ourselves, if God is to truly bless us.
