Seventh Day

Hebrews 4:3

3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

Since the foundation of the world, the works have been completed.  If the works are completed, then what are we to do in this lifetime?  We are to rest.  Hebrews 4:3 is telling those who will listen, from the foundation of the world that rest has been available to mankind.  This is from the time of Adam.  Since that time, God has been offering rest to mankind.  However, we in our carnal nature, our stubbornness has rejected the rest that God offers.

Hebrews 4:4

4For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

God rested on the seventh day when creation was completed.  We should learn the lesson from God’s example.  We should quit trying to create our own little kingdoms and just rest in His kingdom.

Hebrews 4:5-6

5And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. 6Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:

Note what is being stated in Hebrews 4:6, it remaineth.  The question is, what remaineth?  Was it the rest or was it the seventh day that remaineth?  Or possibly both?  It is important to understand the question and the answer, if one is to have rest and peace in this lifetime.  To do that, one must understand time from God’s perspective.  If you are looking for rest and cannot find it, may be it is because you are running around looking for it and all you had to do was realize that it was always here, Hebrews 4:3.

3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

The works were finished, since the foundation of the world.  We were supposed to be at rest, since the time of Adam.  For the subject of this study the question to be answered is, since the time of Adam, has mankind been in the seventh day or the seventh period since the time of Adam?  Genesis 2:1-2

1Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

God completed His work and rested on the Sabbath, simple enough to understand.  If one continues through the Bible, nowhere is it stated that it went back to the first day and the week started all over.  In fact, it is never stated that it went from the seventh day to the eighth day or any other day.

Hebrews 4:4-6

4For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. 5And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. 6Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:

In Hebrews 4:5, place is not in the original Greek text.  Hebrews 4:5 is not referring to a place.  It is referring to a condition.  The condition or state that remaineth is rest in the seventh day.  It has always been there.  Some have found it, but unfortunately many have missed it.  Simply because it was too simple.  For the most part, we have refused the remedy for our sickness, believer and nonbeliever alike.
