Spirit and Truth as One

The condition of rest is something God has afforded to all of mankind.  That is, if we do something, Hebrew 4:2.

2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

The word did not profit the Children of Israel, because it was not mixed with faith.  Hopefully, this sparks a thought.  To have peace today, it takes the word mixed with faith.  It cannot be as so many tried in the past, word and faith separated.  They must be as one, John 4:23-24.

23But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

If we want God in all His fullness, we must allow spirit and truth to be integral as one, Hebrew 4:2.

2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

We need to grab a hold of this concept firmly.  Mixed is the Greek word sugkerannumi {soong-ker-an’-noo-mee} (G4786).  It is found in the Bible 2 times.  It is translated temper together in 1 Corinthians 12:24.

24For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked:

It is not simply having both.  It is to mix together, commingle.  It is to unite in such away that they combine into a single organic structure.  To illustrate this, Romans 12:1.

1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

One is to present themselves as a living sacrifice and it has to be acceptable.  That means not as we decide, but as God decides.  Picture in your mind, the word or truth as flour and faith or the spirit as water.  If just flour, truth is placed on the altar, it will make a mess.  At best it will burn and produce smoke.  It will not be edible nor cohesive.  It will be blown away in the wind.  If one has only spirit.  It is similar to water on the altar, it will flash to steam.  A lot of excitement, but when it is over, nothing remains.

There is an infinite combination of flour and water.  Too much flour and the result will be too dry.  Too much water and the mixture will be runny.  This is why in Romans 12:1:

1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

The combination must be acceptable to God, if we are to see the fulfillment of Romans 12:2.

2And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

If we are to be transformed, our offering must acceptable to God.  It must be the proper combination of spirit and truth.  We cannot have one without the other.  Our spirit must be in truth, as truth is lead by the spirit.

Unfortunately, too many believers have missed this concept.  Some have an aberration of the spirit, because they have little truth.  Others never see the real power of God, because they do not have His precise truth.  We need both His pure spirit and precise truth.  This comes through the pure and unadulterated truth while waiting on His Spirit as He dictates in His word.
