To Day

Hebrews 4:7

7Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

The wording is very specific, “he limited a certain day”.  Did “he” limit rest to the seventh day Sabbath or are we in the seventh day since the beginning of time?  Keep this in mind as we continue.  He states, “to day after so long a time”, and then “To day” again.  This possibly could be referring to the period of time we are currently in.  Now, none of this will make or break your faith.  However, take a moment to consider that possibly the time from Adam to the end of the millennium represents a specific time period.

Hebrews 4:8.

8For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.

“Jesus” may be misleading.  It would have been better translated Joshua.  What is the other day, Joshua was referring to?  Is it a day beyond the 7th Day?  This is another thing to consider.

To complete this passage, Hebrews 4:9-11.

9There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. 11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

One thing should be noted in this, in Hebrews 4:1-11 with one exception, rest either comes from the Greek word katapausis {kat-ap’-ow-sis} (G2663) or katapauo {kat-ap-ow’-o} (G2664).  These have the root meaning in cease or pause.  The one exception is Hebrews 4:9.  In Hebrews 4:9, rest is the Greek word sabbatismos {sab-bat-is-mos’} (G4520).  It is used only once in the Bible.  It literally means keeping of a Sabbath.  Here is the command for keeping a Sabbath that so many claim is not in the New Testament.

If we are in the seventh day and it spans from the time of Adam to the end of the millennium.  After the millennium, the temporary nature of the world ends.  This would make the seventh day 7000 years long.  There were six days prior to the seventh day.  If each day is 7000 years, then the six days prior to the seventh would be six days times 7000 would ore 42,000 years.  So much for the six 24 hour days of creation.  This would now be 42,000 years of creation.  (Refer to Chronology, Sukkoth, Days of the Week for illustration of this.)

If all the time is added together.  At the end of the millennium would be 49,000 years.  If each 1000 year period is as one year, than the millennium would be the 49th year or the seventh Sabbatical Year of time.  After the Millennium, would be the beginning of the 50th year, the Jubilee.  Therefore, eternity is the Jubilee.

Hold on to this thought, because there is more to come.  The Law truly is a shadow of good things to come.
