Yeshua Declares His Ministry

After Yeshua had contended with the Devil, He goes to the Synagogue, Luke 4:16-17.

16And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. 17And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,

It was Yeshua’s custom to be in the Synagogue on a Sabbath Day.  That day He read from the prophets, Luke 4:18-19.

18The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

This is from Isaiah 61:1-2.  It was the declaration of Yeshua’s ministry.  Today, we might call it a mission statement.  God appointed that Yeshua would declare His ministry on a Sabbath Day.

In John, Yeshua makes yet another declaration, John 7:37-39.

37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Yeshua stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Spirit was not yet given; because that Yeshua was not yet glorified.)

Yeshua proclaimed the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, the promise of the Father.  Later, Yeshua stated in Luke 24:49:

49And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

What Yeshua was proclaiming in John 7 was that we would be endued with power from on high.  John 7 makes it clear that it was a Sabbath Day, John 7:2.

2Now the Jews’ feast of tabernacles was at hand.

It was the Feast of Tabernacle, or Sukkoth, John 7:37.

37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Yeshua stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

It was the last great day, the 8th day.  It was Shemini Atsereth, which is the 7th and final Holy Convocation.

So on a Sabbath Day, Yeshua declared His Ministry, and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.  These are decisive and fundamental declarations, both were made on a Sabbath Day.
