It Happened on a Sabbath Day
There are quite a few significant events recorded in the Bible that occurred on a Sabbath Day.
Yeshua was born on a Sabbath, the first day of Sukkoth (see Birth of Messiah for additional discussion). That means Yeshua was born on a Sabbath, because the 1st day of Sukkoth is the 6th Holy convocation.
Eight days later, Yeshua was circumcised and named. Eight days from the 1st of Sukkoth is the 8th day, Shemini Atsereth. It is a Sabbath Day, the 7th Holy convocation (refer to Shemini Atsereth – Yeshua’s Early Years for additional discussion).
The Sabbath was important to Yeshua. It was so important that He ensured that He took His apostles to the synagogue on the Sabbath (see The Apostles and the Sabbath for additional discussion).
Hebrews 13:8
8Yeshua Messiah the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
He is a perfect and unchanging God, and the Sabbath is consistent from the Hebrew Scriptures into the Greek Scriptures. The fact that all these events occurred on a Sabbath is no coincidence. From the beginning, the Sabbath was set apart. God sanctified the Sabbath and it was to be a sign between God and His people. It was a sign for events to occur at the appointed time.
